Just got my HTC Desire HD running Android 2.2 (froyo)

Thought I'd start a thread for posting of sweet Android apps and the like.

So, what apps do I need to get guys?

Yeah, mine finally arrived after a 4 week wait....recommend NOT using mobicity.co.nz as it was the worst online purchasing experience I have ever had.

I certainly impressed with the volume of apps in the market and found most of what I had on my iPhone is on there as well so I am a happy man.

I am absolutely in LOVE with this phone and so happy I went with HTC. Build quality and performance is absolutely outstanding Smile

To stay on topic, coolest one I had found so far is SportyPal. If your into exercise this this links to a bluetooth heart monitor to keep your stats but also maps your run / ride in a 3d map. Waiting on my heart monitor to arrive so I can fully test it but i think its pretty cool. Free too Smile

Google Maps Navigation appears to have been enabled for NZ -- I used it yesterday -- really good but defiantly a drain on the battery

Heres a list of the few app's I have installed.

:!: Adfree - Attempts to block advertisement servers using a hosts list like in Windows. Needs root.
:!: Appbrain - Another marketplace, most apps are in both so perhaps it uses the same repository I'm not sure.
:!: Autolock - Adds a delay to the lock timer so you don't have to do my unlock pattern or password unless its locked for longer than X minutes.
:!: Battle.net Authenticator - Extra security for your Battle.net account, don't forget to remove it from account properly if you want to remove the app from your phone, I was messing around with rooting and ended up with no wow for a few days while I had it removed the hard way during a major patch release Sad.
:!: Fancy Widget - A blatant copy of a built in HTC app that shows the clock and weather and stuff in a nice little window on desktop.
:!: LCDDensity - Lets you adjust the resolution of your phone, fit more on screen at once. Needs root.
:!: Quick Boot - Lets you reboot, or reboot into Recovery, or reboot into Bootloader. Saves you getting into Recovery or Bootloader using whatever the method is on your phone. Needs root.
:!: reddit is fun - Reddit browser, probably much like the Digg browser already mentioned.
:!: ROM Manager – An easier way to install ClockworkMod, a custom Recovery Mod that lets you take backups of your entire phone, letting you restore your phone if you brick it or want to sell it as factory defaults. Also lets you browse a repository of custom ROM’s, which it downloads and installs for you. Needs root.
:!: ShootMe - Lets you take screenshots. I've read there are other ways to do this that don't need root. Needs root.
:!: Terminal Emulator - Emulates a Digital Equipment Corporation VT-100 terminal, lets you run linux commands and stuff and browse your phone. Needs root.
:!: Titanium Backup - A must have if your going to get into flashing ROM's and messing around with your phones recovery ROM and all that jazz. Lets you backup apps and remove apps that you normally can't like the preloaded ones you get with a Telecom phone. Needs root.
:!: Webkey - Lets you access your phone via a browser and use your phone via your computer, can see your screen and everything. Needs root.

I slapped Cyanogen on my phone yesterday which is based on 2.2.1, but the slide unlock thing hasn't changed. Is the slide to unlock style thingy on the Desire an HTC thing or a Desire thing? I thought it was a Froyo thing?

RE: Android Stuff
Anyone tried Gingerbread? It seems so much quicker than Froyo, but it's hard to say. I've got to say that I absolutely love the new lock screen animation haha. Anyone got a favorite custom ROM to recommend? Miui was my favorite after I had removed all the iOS theming, but until they update to 2.3 I'll have to stick to CyanogenMod or try one of the others that run 2.3.
