Laptop speakers
Hey everyone! BLEH!

So i just sold my laptop to my flatmate. Laptop was in excellent condition until 1 weeks later...

About 2 times a day the speakers just randomly start making this really loud high pitched squealing noise. Muting or turning the volume down does nothing.

Could this be a software problem? Or should I be gutted because it is a hardware problem?

Have any of you herd of this before? Will the speakers need replacing? Can you replace laptop speakers?

I think I will have to pay for the repairs as he only just got the laptop. Id feel bad as if I were ripping him off if I didn't. I just really hope this is not the case as uni has started up again and money is once again tight.

HELP?!

Its probably not the speakers, more likely the PC speaker on the motherboard, which you could probably just unplug. You might be able to find a manual or something, but I'd just open up the laptop and have a look for it.

No no no my friend it is the speakers! This has been determined by when it starts making the infamous noise and turn the volume on the speakers up, the pitch of the noise changes....

Lol matt! haha. mate is your uncle a schippy pommy poofter?

Ok, your speakers look like this, apparently...

so that's a right and left speaker, the next step is to open up the laptop and make sure that speaker cable isn't pinched somewhere or damaged.

If the cable and speakers look like they should be working fine, then unplug the speakers from the motherboard and leave it like that for a bit (Just to make sure definitely that it is the speakers making the sounds)

Finding replacement speakers is possible, the one in that image is $20USD but you'd have to get them shipped here which might cost a bit more, but ideally you'd get one from Dell NZ.

No guarantee that the speakers aren't simply playing what a broken sound card on the motherboard is telling them to play, but the fact that its not coming out the headphones is a good sign
