The problem occurs because there is no entry for Warcraft III map file types (extensions w3x, w3m). This is understandable, as Warcraft III is not exactly a widely used application where the file types are standardized. The problem is that Opera tends to think that a plugin is necessary for Opera to be able to view these files, and because such a thing doesn't exist, we get an error.
Here's a screenshot of what you would see:

Oh heavens! What to do!?
Well my friends, my usual answer would be to fix it yourself and stop crying/complaining, but given my generous mood at this very moment, and perhaps the ineptitude of my associates, I have opted to fix these things for you. :o
It's basically a matter of adding your own file type entry, and here's where Opera gets to be even more convenient than other, lesser browsers (IE, Firefox, Safari, all other browsers that aren't Opera).
Opera lists all the MIME types and associated file extensions in Downloads section under Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Downloads. See Below

Here is the File Type entry that I added for Warcraft III maps:

Note: The MIME type field is greyed-out because I'm viewing the File Type I have already added. The field should be editable when you add a new one
The entry above will allow Opera to automatically save Warcraft III maps to the appropriate folder under the Warcraft III install directory, so all I need to do is click on a link to the map, and then open up Warcraft III. The map should automatically be placed (unless it's within an archive).
You can do the exact same thing with any file type. As an example, torrent files are set to automatically open with utorrent when I click on a link to one.
That said, there are potential security risks involved with configuring Opera in this way, but I'm sure most of us are knowledgeable and experienced enough to avoid clicking on the wrong things
