Windows Live Public Beta, Wave 3
Includes:
    • Windows Live Messenger Beta
    • Windows Live Mail Beta.
    • Windows Live Toolbar Beta
    • Windows Live Photo Gallery Beta
    • Windows Live Movie Maker Beta
    • Windows Live Writer Beta
    • Windows Live Family Safety Beta
    • Microsoft Office Outlook Connector

Web setup: wlsetup-web.exe (991 KB)
Full installer: wlsetup-all.exe (134.8MB)

I'm not seeing much difference in terms of features with the new Messenger. It just looks better. Hopefully this version doesn't break every once in a while like the older one did. Now if only they could get rid of that advertisment at the bottom.

That's probably about 12 MB per component (it also installs some other VS stuff that it needs), so it's not that much. Older versions of Messenger usually had installers at around 20 - 50MB if I remember correctly, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Also, did you see how the web installer is 911 KB?

It looks like you can add the hostname "rad.msn.com" as an entry to your hosts file to block the ads at the bottom in Live Messenger.

I found the ads to be just too annoying. Especially the ones that increase in size when you scroll over them.

I guess I could, but I just don't feel like enough of an idiot to get problematic, unnecessary, third-party add-ons or patching software to do something so simple.

It's the only thing that's really annoying to me, so I'd rather fix my own problems by myself. But I guess you know that I've always recommended that technique over anything else

Well I guess ill have to just enjoy my cleaner, more efficient, more functional, less annoying, and actually usable version of MSN by myself

So now you tell me you're experiencing frequent crashing (It's no lie, he did). Hmmm...

I also patched my MSN immediately after installation, so there is no way to tell if my frequent crashing is a result of the patching process or the fact that this installation is a beta version, but I will admit that this situation is quite disconcerting to all involved.
