I see that this hasn't fixed my problem, but from this recent occurence I think I understand the problem better.
It looks like the problem occurs when I click on my Downloads folder from the "Favorite Links" section on the left of the explorer window. It carries across the view settings from the previous folder and applies it to my Downloads folder. ie. If I open Computer (View settings: Tiles, Grouped by Type, Ascending) it will carry those settings across when I click the shortcut. Again, this only happens some of the time. Not every single time.
