'Arrested Development' Will Return to Series TV

There is going to be an "Arrested Development" movie, and, better yet, it's going to be preceded by a short season of new "AD" episodes.

IFC and Showtime are among the networks interested in the new season, sources told TheWrap Monday. The series was canceled by Fox in 2006 after three seasons.

The short season and movie were confirmed Sunday by series co-creator and executive producer Mitch Hurwitz and the "Arrested Development" cast, who gathered in New York City Sunday for the "Bluth Family Reunion," a New Yorker Festival cast panel and Q&A session.

And before fans even had the chance to ask the one question every Bluth lover wants to know, Hurwitz spilled the goods about the movie, which will follow a string of nine or 10 new episodes of the show, with each episode planned to catch viewers up on what individual characters have been up to.

Case Fans - Are they necessary?

What do you guys/girls think?

In my opinion - I have been running my PC with no case fan for several years now and no issues - I think that they are unnecessary because:

- Fans/Cooling mechanisms located on the individual components (Chipset/GPU/CPU/PSU) are adequate
- Most PCs these days from OEMs do not have any case fans
- Has anyone ever seen an instance where a PC had died or was malfunctioning due to lack of a case fan?

The only genuine reason that I can think of is that if the components in your computer are generating mass heat and the fans are running really high then having an additional fan in the case to help take the air out may save you money in power... but keep in mind that the fans also use additional power. So if the power saved by the case fan is greater than the power used by that fan then... well thats approved. Even so in this scenario the case fan is more beneficial than necessary.

The downsides to having those case fans are:
- More noise
- More power wasted (unless the scenario above is true)

Hey I'm looking at getting ADSL, anyone recommend any ISP over another? It'll be purely for gaming because we have a separate connection for torrenting so it won't matter if it's an ISP that throttles. I keep hearing that Telstra are best for fast reliable gaming in New Zealand, would you guys agree?

OTA Stock Android 2.2 on Telstra HTC Desire Without Rooting

Here are the steps I performed on the Telstra A8183 Desire (Note: I am using it on the Telecom New Zealand XT Network)

If not already done, Install HTC Sync and restart your computer (Yes you actually do have to restart or it wont work)
Format the microSD card to FAT32 format (quick format is OK).
Put the microSD card in your device and boot it.
Launch GoldCard Tool (Right Click and run as Admin if needed)
Connect Android device to USB and enable USB Debugging (Settings --> Applications --> Developer --> Enable USB Debugging)
Click 'Get CID' (If MMC1 fails try MMC0)
Navigate to http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard, enter the CID number from Goldcard Tool and create your Goldcard image, which will be e-mailed to you.
Enable USB Mass Storage on the Desire if its not on already
Click 'Refresh' and select your microSD card in the drop down menu.
Click 'Load GoldCard.img' and open the .img file you got by email.
Click 'Patch MMC'
Download and run RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
Once the phone is flashed, download OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip and rename it to update.zip
Copy it to your Goldcard and power off the phone
Turn on the phone by pressing the Down arrow Key and the Power Button This will take you to a menu. Using the volume down button to select recovery mode and press the power button.
When you see the image of the phone with an Exclamation mark press the volume up and the power button and select install the contents from update.zip

HowTo: Fixing Transcend USB Flash drives

I was given a 16GB USB flash drive today that wasn't working:

Symptoms:
- When plugged in in XP it would show up in My Computer but when you click on it it would say 'Drive not initialized'
- Right click Format fails
- In XP Disk Management it does not show the drive size or allow you to initialize it
- When plugged into Windows 7 it appears in Disk Management but same as with XP you are unable to do anything but change drive letters and path
- when formatting from cmd you receive:
C:\Windows\system32>format j:

Insert new disk for drive J:

and press ENTER when ready...

Cannot open volume for direct access.

C:\Windows\system32>dir j:

The device is not ready.

Troubleshooting
- I downloaded the HP USB Disk Key application when attempting to use this you get a:

- Finally I went over to the Transcend website (the USB key was a 16GB V10 series Transcend drive) and downloaded their Online recovery tool (I don't know why they call it online -- it runs off-line)
- Using this tool I was able to run a "Repair drive & erase all data"
- This appears to have resolved the problem

Since I couldn't find any info around the internets on this -- I figured I should post it somewhere

Previously Steven Hawking has said that physics has confirmed the existence of a god, however, in his new book he has debunked this with his new statement that "God did not create the universe".

"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist," Hawking writes.

Hawking, 68, who won global recognition with his 1988 book A Brief History of Time, an account of the origins of the universe, is renowned for his work on black holes, cosmology and quantum gravity.

Since 1974, the scientist has worked on marrying the two cornerstones of modern physics - Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, which concerns gravity and large-scale phenomena, and quantum theory, which covers subatomic particles.

The Grand Design is due to go on sale next week.

Swiftpoint mouse

New Zealand based firm "Swiftpoint" is trying to revolutionize the way you use your laptop mouse from tomorrow with its new product, an ultra-portable, fast charging laptop mouse.

The revolutionary device is tiny, held like a pen and designed to be used on a laptop's palm rest, but can even be used to glide across a laptop keyboard. According to Stuff.co.nz, the mouse will sell initially for $125 NZD ($69.95 USD), and is charged through a USB dock. Apparently, a 30 second charge will give just over an hours use and a 90 minute charge will give the mouse almost four weeks of use.

Swiftpoint Chief Executive, Grant Odgers said that the company had "hundreds of preorders for the mouse" and that "one of the things that frustrates people is the battery running out on their mouse ... With our one, you can be up and running again really quickly." Odgers continued to say that they are releasing the mouse to help with productivity for laptop users, because there is no real replacement for them yet, even with Tablet PC's on the rise; "[Tablets] are more for entertainment. If you want to do anything productive you wouldn't really use an iPad. We don't think people will buy an iPad instead of a laptop."

The company will be going head-to-head with larger manufacturers such as Logitech and was required to be innovative to compete. Swiftpoint actually emerged back in 2008, with two obscure mouse designs, the Triped and the Slider, though nothing eventuated from the announcements about the products.

Swiftpoint also claims the mouse is 30-40% more accurate than the laptop touchpad, and says the devices will be available through Amazon.com and its own website beginning tomorrow. The device looks to change the way laptop mice are used, and is designed to be easily portable. It will be interesting to see if the device is comfortable to use, and as easy to use as the company claims.
